#sundaysetting⁠⠀ ⁠Anyone who has seen photos #sundaysetting⁠⠀ ⁠Anyone who has seen photos of my loft or my studio or my Montauk house knows that I love collections – collections of art or objects, collections of photographs or Buddhas or shells or sculptures or temple ornaments or or or...⁠⠀ So when I work with a client who has his or her own collection, it's like a meeting of the minds. Here my clients' objects sit atop a Portuguese table, and the whole composition is reflected in the mirror. The Thom chair is from my showroom.⁠⠀ This capture, for me, reinforces the idea that different points of view give any space more character and depth.⁠⠀

Chinese windows slide to either side to open and close the passthrough. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I often "go dark" in the media rooms I create – I want my clients to feel engulfed, protected. In this house, the color palette is based on the robes Moses wore in the movie The Ten Commandments, and a dark room didn't feel right. But as I discoverd, sandy neutral tones also make a great cocoon.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ (If anyone is curious about the empty space on the wall, we were awaiting installation of a large painting. The updated photo is in the digital archive...somewhere.)⁠

.⁠⠀ Mizumi is a Japanese restaurant in the spe .⁠⠀ Mizumi is a Japanese restaurant in the spectacular Wynn Palace Cotai in Macau. Macau, part of China, has a complex history with influences from numerous Far Eastern and European countries. Since I travel to the Far East each year, I find the unusual blends of architecture and design especially fascinating.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I created a Japanese garden at the entrance to the restaurant. Instead of rocks, we used stainless steel pebbles to give it the Wynn look. The screen is made of porcelain disks connected by stainless steel rings. The disks were hand-fabricated in South Africa to capture a sense of variation. The stone monolith is 12 feet tall – I found it in Bali.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Just on the other side of the porcelain screen is the sushi counter⁠. The origami cranes are a direct reference to Japanese craft traditions.⁠⠀
